Injectables: What’s the Difference?

Creams and makeup will do little more than conceal the changes in your face, but the thought of undergoing a surgical procedure is not something you’re interested in. So, what is the solution? Thompson Plastic Surgery offers a variety of injectables that are designed to address many of your concerns. With an injectable treatment plan, your face can have a natural, youthful look once again.

BOTOX® Cosmetic-Type Injectables

Botulinum toxin type A is a neurotoxin injectable that works by targeting the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. These injectables work by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles, causing those muscles to relax and the facial wrinkles and lines to soften. Dr. Thompson offers several botulinum toxin type A injectables and can help you choose the best one for you.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular of the botulinum toxin A injectables. It targets lines across the forehead, crow’s feet, and wrinkles between the eyebrows. These all develop due to the continuous contraction of the underlying muscles during everyday facial movements. It is injected into the muscles to relax them. Your results can last up to four months.

Dysport®

Dysport® also can be used to address forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines in a way that is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. It, too, is made from botulinum toxin A. Dysport® is injected into the underlying muscles to reduce muscle contractions that cause wrinkling to occur. Results of Dysport® also last approximately four months.  

XEOMIN®

XEOMIN® is the newest botulinum toxin A injectable. Just like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, it targets wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

Dermal Fillers

Dr. Thompson offers dermal fillers to help fill in lost volume in the face. In addition to restoring volume, many fillers also target wrinkles.

Bellafill®

Bellafill® is a special injectable that uses polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres in a collagen gel to reduce the appearance of smile lines. It offers immediate smoothing and stimulates collagen production with results lasting up to five years.

BELOTERO BALANCE®

BELOTERO BALANCE® is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is produced naturally by the body to aid in skin health and hydration. This filler helps in restore lost facial volume. It has a thinner formulation, which makes it ideal for targeting delicate areas of the face. Your results can last up to six months.

JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® offers many different forms of hyaluronic acid gel designed to add volume to different areas of the face. JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC are used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC adds volume to aging cheeks, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC smooths lines on the lips and around the mouth, and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC can be used to augment the lips, as well as treat fine lines around the mouth. Your results will last from one to two years depending on the formulation used.

RADIESSE®

RADIESSE® can restore lost facial volume and also smooth out moderate to severe wrinkles. However, its greatest benefit is that it stimulates your body’s natural collagen production abilities, which increases your skin’s elasticity, and its continued production helps to maintain your skin’s health. Results of RADIESSE® can last up to a full year.

Restylane®

Restylane® products are composed of hyaluronic acid and can be used to treat a variety of facial aging concerns for patients over the age of 21. There are several formulations available, including Restylane® Silk for the lips, Restylane® Defyne™ and Restylane® Refyne™for moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, Restylane® Lyft™ with Lidocaine to treat volume loss and wrinkles on the hands and face, and Restylane® and Restylane-L® for the treatment of wrinkles on the face and adding volume to lips.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® Aesthetic targets lost facial volume. It fills in deep lines and wrinkles and returns fullness to your cheeks. It also helps to stimulate the collagen production in your body, providing long-lasting results after two to three treatments.

Fat-Reducing Injectable

KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® uses synthetic deoxycholic acid, a substance produced by the body to help with the absorption of fat, to eliminate fat cells underneath the chin. While multiple treatments may be needed, the fat cells are destroyed so results are permanent.
