What Is the Process?

Ice or Topical Anesthetic

Dr. Thompson begins by applying ice or a topical anesthetic to the injection sites to constrict the vessels in the skin, prevent discomfort during the treatment, and help reduce potential bruising. You may be asked to contract your facial muscles so he can see exactly where to inject.

Injection

Every treatment site receives a strategic dose to fully relax the muscle, making it difficult for wrinkles to form in the treated area.

Completing the Process

Depending on the number of treatment areas, the entire process can take between 10 and 30 minutes to perform. Surgical gauze may be gently pressed against the treatment site following the injection. Patients can leave as soon as their treatment has concluded.

Results

Following your procedure, it can take between two and seven days to see improvements in your facial appearance. Subsequent treatments may be scheduled every three to four months. Some patients are asked to return for a follow-up appointment after two weeks, depending on their outcome.

Recovery

There is no downtime after treatment, and you may have gauze applied to the area to protect the injection site. You should avoid bending over or lying down for a few hours after your procedure. Please avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours and prevent pressure or rubbing on the injection sites. You are welcome to resume physical activities a couple of hours following your procedure, though many patients wait until the following day to exercise.

Scars

The needles used to administer BOTOX® Cosmetic, Jeuveau™, Dysport®, XEOMIN® and DAXXIFY® are very thin, so scarring is not typically associated with injectables.

Cost

Pain

Some patients experience a mild stinging or burning sensation when the formula is injected into the muscles. You may also feel itchy or see slight redness around the injection sites, which should resolve within two or three days.
